 Now we learn how to set up a bank account and connect it to Bank Feeds in QuickBooks. One of the features of QuickBooks is the ability to upload bank transactions to your bank's site, and you can use Bank Feeds to connect your bank and credit card accounts to online banking. With this feature, you can upload all of your banking transactions to QuickBooks. This lets you download bank transactions so you do not have to record them manually.
 

 You can set up bank and credit card accounts for online banking in single-user and multi-user mode. Many banks offer this feature for their small business and dealer account holders. They allow downloads for both QuickBooks Software. The difficulty in using any bank especially for these downloads comes with the many mergers that seem to happen almost every year.
 
 You can connect up to 40 accounts.
 

 In QuickBooks Desktop, you can use Bank Feeds to connect your bank and credit card accounts to online banking. This lets you download bank transactions so you don't have to record them manually. 


<h2>What you need to get started</h2>
 
 The two primary requirements are:

 <li>Access to the internet.</li>
 <li>A banking account at a financial institution that offers services for QuickBooks.</li>
</ul>

 
 To find out if your financial institution supports online services for QuickBooks, go to the Banking menu, select Bank Feeds and then select Participating Financial Institutions.
 

 There are over 1400 financial institutions (FI) that offer online banking services in QuickBooks at the moment. If your bank or credit card company doesn't offer online banking import or download services for QuickBooks. 

 Your financial institution controls what and how information is received by QuickBooks. Before you set up online banking, it is highly recommended that you coordinate with your bank so you�ll know what connection method they support, what the fees are (if any), and what information you need to set up and use the feature. Note: You can't add online services to a QuickBooks account until you have received all the information required by your FI.

 General instructions for QuickBooks Online</h2>
 
 There are two methods to set up a new bank account in QuickBooks Online.

 METHOD 1: Direct feed connection </h3>
 
 This is generally used for a bank account that you know has a bank feed available and is set up for bank feed access. 
 
 Go to the Banking tab in QuickBooks Online and click the 'Add Account' button

 This option is great if there is no bank feed available or if you want to connect the bank feed later.
 
 Go to the Accounting tab in QuickBooks Online, and when the Chart of Accounts loads, click on 'New'

 General instructions for QuickBooks desktop</h3>
 
 There are two ways to set up an account: Direct Connect and Web Connect. The way you connect depends on what's available at your bank.
<h3> 

 Direct Connect</h3>
 
 Download your transactions with Direct Connect. Allows QuickBooks to send information to your FI and download data directly from it. This method requires the use of a bank-provided PIN or password. After you set up the account, you can securely download electronic statements to your Bank Feeds. You can also use other types of online services (online vendor payment, online transfer between accounts, and others) supported by your FI.
 
 Before you start, find out from your bank if there's a fee or if the service is free.
 
<ol>
 <li>From Banking, go to Bank Feeds.</li>
 <li> Select Set up Bank Feeds for an account.</li>
 <li>In the Enter your Bank�s name field, enter and select your bank.</li>
</ol>


 
 If you're enrolling for the first time, select the Enrollment site link. You may need to apply for Direct Connect. If your bank needs to approve your application, contact them. Ask them whether you need special sign-in credentials.
 
 If you're already enrolled:

 <li> Select Continue.</li>
 <li> Enter your Online Banking ID and Password.</li>
 <li>Select Connect to connect your QuickBooks to your bank�s server.</li>
 <li>Select the bank account you want to connect</li>
 <li>Select Finish after the connection finishes.</li>

 When you download transactions from your bank for the first time, QuickBooks automatically sets up the account for Bank Feeds. After you set up your account, you can download transactions from your bank.

 Web Connect</h2>
 
 Import Web Connect (.qbo) files. Only allows receiving of data through a downloaded file via a web browser. If you set up using Web Connect, you won't be able to send payments to your vendors or transfer funds to another account from within the program. Web connect (.QBO) files are online banking transactions from your bank�s website. The (.QBO) files can be downloaded and saved on your computer. Then, you can import the transactions so they become available in your Bank Feeds. If your bank offers Web Connect:

 Invoices vs. Sales Receipt</h3>
 
 If your customers don�t pay you in full at the time you provide your service or product, or if they pay in advance, you need to track how much they owe you. Using an invoice helps you keep track of what your customers owe you (or your �accounts receivable�).
 
 If your customers pay in full at the time, they receive your service or product, then you don�t have to track how much they owe you. However, you might want to track each sale, calculate its sales tax, or print a receipt for the sale. In that case, use a sales receipt.
<h3> 

 Invoice Workflow Overview</h3>
 
 Use the invoice workflow when your customer pays you later for a product or service. Start by entering the sale on the invoice form, then record the customer payment in the Receive Payment window. Finally, record the deposit of the customer payment in the bank account.

In this chapter, we'll learn how to set up a new business in QuickBooks Online. Whether your business has been recording transactions, customers, and suppliers for several years or is just getting started, QuickBooks can easily integrate your business data. In this chapter, you will learn how to:

 Advanced Settings</h2>
 
 Click the Advanced Settings link to update additional settings in your company. The important settings in the advanced section are the following:

 Accounting</h3>
 
 The accounting settings let you determine the first month of your company�s fiscal year. You can also select the option to Close the books.
<ul style="list-style-type: circle;">
 <li>First month of fiscal year: For reporting, you can specify any month as the start of your fiscal year (also called your financial reporting year or accounting year).</li>
 <li>Close the books: The Closing Date marks when your company�s books have been closed. You�ll set a closing date password to protect your records against changes that would alter balances for closed accounting periods. These changes include editing or deleting transactions entered on or before the closing date and entering new transactions dated on or before the closing date.</li>
</ul>

 

 To update the Accounting settings:
 
 1. Click the Accounting section to edit the settings. 
 2.Choose the First month of the fiscal year

3. Select the Close the books option. 
 4. Enter the Closing date. QuickBooks lets you choose to allow changes with just a warning or a warning and a password. Choose the option that works for your company. 
 5. Enter the Password if required. 
 6. Click Save.

7. Click Done to update the Company Settings.

If you decide to set a password, QuickBooks requires the password for changes that would alter balances for the accounting period you have closed.  How QuickBooks Is Built?</h2>
 
 QuickBooks is based on lists and transaction forms. Together they make up most of the information in QuickBooks. See below for more details.

 Lists in QuickBooks</h3>
 
 Lists are the framework of QuickBooks. Use lists to fill out most QuickBooks forms. For example, to pay a bill, choose a name from your vendor list on the Enter Bills form. QuickBooks enters the list information on the form for you. This saves you time and prevents typing errors. You can also change the information directly on the form if necessary.
 
 Although most lists are easy to set up in QuickBooks, some lists -such as the Chart of Accounts list, Products, and Services list, and Class list- require careful planning.

<h3>QuickBooks Transaction Forms</h3>
 
 You record most of your daily business transactions on a QuickBooks transaction form. You will use QuickBooks lists to complete transaction forms. Behind the scenes, QuickBooks records the accounting entries (debits and credits). The invoice is an example

<h3> Importing Lists</h3>
 
 If you have Excel files containing lists of your customers, suppliers, chart of accounts, and/or products &amp; services they can be imported into QuickBooks to quickly incorporate your business� information into your company file. This is helpful because entering each customer, supplier, etc., individually can be time-consuming.
 

 To import customers:
 
 1. Click the Gear Icon at the top right of the screen and then click Import Data.

2. Click Customers.

3. Click Browse and then navigate to the Excel or CSV file that contains your customer data. Click Open, and Next at the bottom right.

4. The window now displays two columns. The column on the left shows data fields that can be imported into QuickBooks. The column on the right shows possible matches for that data that is in your Excel file. QuickBooks usually matches these sets of data by itself, but if needed you can click any drop-down arrow on the right column and change how QuickBooks will interpret it when importing. After reviewing the information, click Next.

5. In the final window, you can confirm the data that QuickBooks is importing and make any final changes. If QuickBooks encountered any errors, you will see them displayed in red. After reviewing the information, click Import.

 Steps for Importing Products and Services

<ol>

 Opening Balances</h3>
 
 The Chart of Accounts can be imported through the same means as customers, suppliers, and products &amp; services, and by doing so the balances of various accounts can also be imported. This is helpful because if you have a Chequing account, loans, or assets, you need to integrate the balances of those accounts into QuickBooks before entering any transactions that relate to that account. For instance, before you enter cheques that you�ve written, you first want to enter the amount of money that is currently in that Chequing account.
 
 Importing your Chart of Accounts is the easiest method for integrating those opening balances, but other methods can be employed:
 
<ul style="list-style-type: circle;">
 <li> Manual Entry: When you create a new account on the Chart of Accounts, if the account is a Balance Sheet account (asset, liability, or equity) you have an option for entering an opening balance and an as of date for that balance.</li>
 <li>Historical Transactions: You can enter historical transactions that makeup account balances through the same methods as entering any other kind of transaction. As long as you enter the appropriate date QuickBooks will update your financial information for that period, and the appropriate accounts will also be affected.</li>
 <li>Journal Entries: If you are well-versed in debits and credits and how they are used to generate account balances in a double-entry accounting system you can build a journal entry that summarizes all of your business� financial information on a single journal entry. Doing so will incorporate your accounts� balances. This is an advanced method, however, and should not be attempted unless you have extensive knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping or your accountant has built an appropriate journal entry for you.</li>
</ul>
